How not to defeat the BNP...

I have attended many public sector meetings where the British National Party are discussed, and civil servants without fail spend the first minute of every conversation trying to outdo each other in their rhetoric against them. Now I’m a pretty straight talking kind of guy, but I soon realised that if I did not also prefix my statements to these committees with the same hyperbolic comments on what “evil, fascist, scum” I thought they were, there would be suspicions that I might be a closet Griffen apologist - such is the paranoia.

This is not a huge issue, but where I always draw the line is when the ultimate accusation is made, as it always is, that the BNP are "Nazi’s," and Nick Griffen is the next "Hitler." This always gets civil servants nodding in agreement.

Now, to prefix myself again...this blog stands firmly against far-right groups because they are a threat to social cohesion, a decent society, and equal rights. OK, I hope I have settled your mind about me:

I find myself pointing out that whilst I feel the same emotions as they do towards the BNP, calling them Nazis is a huge error that plays into their political strategy. This never makes me popular but the reality is that Nick Griffen is a Zionist. He is an ardent supporter of anything Israel does, and has even proposed similar policies, such as a dividing wall in Northern Ireland. Nazi’s HATE Jews, and UK Nazi’s hate Griffen almost as much because he has betrayed them.

By misrepresenting the BNP, Griffen and his ilk win a moral victory because they can offer it as proof that the current political system and media empire are lying about them and that they are in fact the honest, common sense, family spirited, underdog.

This is why worthy campaigns such as Hope not Hate are losing and the BNP are winning council seats in local authorities. Councils and campaigners are fighting Nazi’s not the BNP, and Nazism is not the threat, White Nationalism is. So lets deal with the BNP for who they are, and not what we want them to be. Lets expose them, behave better than them, and beat them in debate. But don’t slander them or they might just keep winning.
